Heat a large wide pan and add the cumin seeds, allowing the flavour to release, before adding the oil and onion. Continue to cook for a few minutes until the onion is softened.
Add the cabbage and combine well. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes. Add the raisins, orange juice, vinegar, and pepper. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer gently for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage is cooked but still retains a slight bite.
Top Tip: For extra sweet cabbage, add 4 or 5 ripe fresh figs or 100g (3½oz) dried chopped figs before simmering.
